April 4, 2012
Belleville, Ill. - Following a successful 2011-12 season, the Lindenwood University – Belleville women’s basketball team has signed several new recruits for the 2012-13 season.
Brettnie Henson will join the Lady Lynx squad from Bismarck, Missouri where she was named first team All-Conference and first team All-District. As a four-year honor roll student, Henson was in the top-10 percent of her class.
She was a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). In addition, Henson was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council.
“She can finish around the rim easily and go down the floor,” said Head Coach Annie Ewing. “Henson is a solid post player who has the ability to impact our program immediately and we’re excited to have her.”
Courtney Heberlie comes from St. Vincent High School where she started varsity as a sophomore, junior and senior. As a sophomore, Heberlie was named MVP and All-Conference, leading her team to an 18-9 overall record. During her junior year at St. Vincent, Heberlie was named MVP for the second-consecutive year after helping her team to a 20-6 record. She was named first team All-Conference, first team All-District, first team All-State and earned a spot on the 2011 Southeast Missourian Dream Team. Heberlie led the Jefferson County Conference in three-point shooting and free throws, while ranking top-10 in assists and scoring. As a captain during her senior year, Heberlie’s team finished 17-8 on the season, leading the conference in three-point shooting and free throws for the second-straight season. She ranked fifth in scoring and was named All-District for the second-consecutive year.
Heberlie made honor roll all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a recipient of the JCAA Academic Award and Christian Service Aware for complete more than 100 hours of community service.
“Heberlie is an all-around player who can handle the ball and defend,” said Ewing. “She fits in well with our program and we are excited for her career here.”
Christian Johnson from Pattonville High School in St. Louis, Missouri will also join the Lady Lynx next season. Johnson was named Conference Player Honorable Mention, helping her team earn their conference title. With the help of Johnson, Pattonville went undefeated in its conference and at home, finishing second in its district.
“Johnson will help to replace the void we will have by losing Ashley Will because she is not afraid to bang around the post and rebound,” said Ewing. “Her positive attitude is exactly what we need for this program.”
