Belleville, Ill. - Lindenwood – Belleville’s added Men’s and Women’s Bowling to the expanding sport roster this year, and both teams have made a phenomenal impression during their first season of competition.
LU – Belleville’s inaugural bowling team hit the road on September 24 to compete in the University’s first bowling tournament at the third Annual Green River Classic in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The women’s team finished in third place, and the men’s team finished fifth. Jon Heimann and Aurora Maze had an outstanding tournament, receiving individual performance medals. Heimann was the second overall men’s tournament bowler (189 avg.) and Maze finished as the third overall women’s tournament bowler. Other notable Men’s individual bowlers were Jay Hogue (9th), Clayton Wilke (15th), and Kyle Hawk (19th). Amanda Quirin (12th), Kassandra Gause (21st) both received women’s individual honors.
Both teams placed in the top-15 at the Storm Western Shootout October 8-9, with the men earning a 13th – place finish and the women finishing 12th. Karyssa Betts placed 19th overall with an average of 177 while Heimann earned a top-50 spot with his 189 average. The Lynx and Lady Lynx competed at the Boilmaker Classic October 29-30 where the men finished 21st and the women placed 16th.
Lindenwood Belleville had their first home tournament November 11-12, competing in the S.I. Elite Invitational at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Illinois. The women’s team finished sixth overall and the men’s team finished seventh. Jay Hogue was the top Lindenwood Bowler being placed on the All-Tournament team, posting the third overall men’s average finishing with a 208. All teams, including the Varsity (B) team, had strong performance’s placing seven men in the top 40 (Hogue, Jared Burgard, Kyle Hawk, Clayton Wilke, Heimann, Cory Meehan, Douglas Reno) and three women (Karyssa Betts, Kassandra Gause, and Amanda Quirin) in the top 40 individual bowlers.
LU – Belleville’s men’s team earned a 16th – place finish at the National Team Match November 25-26, while the women’s placed 21st. Hogue (26th), Heimann (42nd) and Wilke (48th) were the top finishers on the men’s side and Maze led the women with a 37-th place finish.
Over the weekend, Lindenwood – Belleville traveled to South Bend, Indiana for the Blue and Gold Classic, with both teams bringing home a top-50 finish. The men finished in 37th place, while the women came out in 34th place. Three LU – Belleville bowlers had top 25% performances. Out of 422 bowlers, Heimann placed 49th, Wilke finished at 79, and Hawk finished in 104th place. For the women, Chohnice Daniels finished 97th out of 275 bowlers and Gause finished in 102nd place.
Head Coach Kim Williams is pleased the team’s impressive start and strong performances in the program’s inaugural season.
“We are no longer accepting the statement that we are just a first year team,” said Williams. “The team is striving for excellence every tournament and will get better with each competition.”
The teams will be competing the next two weekends in the Lion’s Classic in St. Charles, Missouri (Jan. 28-29) and the McKendree Baker Challenge in Belleville, Illinois.
