Belleville, Ill. – Jeff Fisher was named head football coach at Lindenwood University – Belleville, as announced by the school Wednesday. Fisher joins the Lynx from McKendree University, where he served as the Bearcats’ offensive coordinator. He helped establish the football program at McKendree back in 1996 and has spent the past 15 years as a member of the McKendree University football coaching staff.
“Coach Fisher brings a wealth of experience, and this is a big time hire for the University and the Athletic Department,” said Director of Athletics Scott Spinner. “Coach Fisher is going to bring instant credibility to our football program.”
Fisher led one of the best rushing attacks in the division, bringing continued success to Bearcat offense. In 2008, McKendree was third in the NAIA in rushing offense after leading the organization in the same category in each of the previous two seasons. McKendree has also consistently ranked among the top scoring offensive units in the NAIA during that span. Back in 1999, Fisher was named the Mid-States Football Association Midwest League Assistant Coach of the Year. While at McKendree, Fisher also served as director of the Bearcat Football Camp.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to build a program in this community, and I’m confident it’s going to be successful,” said Fisher. “The community’s excitement for the school and the vision that the administration and I have for this program make me happy to be a part of it.”
Prior to McKendree, Fisher served as co-defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, and recruiting coordinator for two seasons at the University of Dubuque. He began his coaching career in 1993 as the defensive backs coach at his alma mater, Illinois Wesleyan University, after graduating the same year with degrees in history and secondary education.
“Lindenwood University – Belleville is very fortunate to have the skills and talents that will make our intercollegiate football program a national model in its inaugural year,” said Vice President and CAO Jerry Bladdick.
Fisher, who is a native of Cambria, Ill., was an All-Area and All-Conference defensive lineman at Carterville Community High School.
