Belleville, Ill. – Lindenwood University – Belleville has begun recruitment for both men’s and women’s bowling teams thanks to a strong effort set forth by new head coach, Curtis Wilkerson. This past year, Wilkerson contributed his efforts to the success of the men’s basketball team as an assistant coach. As head bowling coach, he has now begun to line up the first teams of Lynx bowlers.
Wilkerson was promoted to the newly-created position in late January and has recruited at the same level as perennial powerhouses McKendree University and Lindenwood in St. Charles. Wilkerson believes that the first season could be a huge success. “Since there is no NAIA or NCAA bowling, all collegiate teams compete in the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate level,” Wilkerson explained. “This means that we will be matching up against some of the best teams in the country from day one.”
This is a tall order for the Lynx teams. “No matter whom we face, we are confident in our chance to win. Our recruits are all quality bowlers and are competitive enough to do some great things when we get into competition,” said Wilkerson. “We also have two great assistants, Brad Cygan and Kim Williams, who can help our bowlers compete at another level.”
Bowling will begin in the winter of 2011. The LU – Belleville schedule will be released in the summer after schools release next season’s tournament dates to the USBC. All teams in the USBC will begin crafting their schedules after May 15, 2011.
