The women’s tennis program added to their roster last week with the signing of Cecilia Sanchez, Jessica Moss, and Jeanette Guellil.
Sanchez and Moss are both coming to Lindenwood – Belleville from Lewis and Clark Community College. At Lewis and Clark, they helped lead their team to the NJCAA Nationals the past two seasons. In fact, just four days after returning from Nationals in Arizona, the girls decided to make their commitment official and signed at the Lindenwood - Belleville campus.
“I’m extremely excited to have Cecilia and Jessica on our team,” said Coach Scott Spinner. “These are two wonderful young ladies and they both work extremely hard in the classroom and on the court. Those are the kind of girls I want representing our program.”
Also adding to the roster was Belleville East graduate Jeanette Guellil. “Guellil was one of those cases where we just got lucky,” said Coach Spinner. “She wasn’t even on our recruiting spreadsheet until she walked in one day and now I’ve come to find out that she is quite athletic.”
The addition of these three girls takes the signed roster total to six and the team still has several scholarship offers on the table. “With the other offers we have extended, I expect about four of the girls to sign. That puts us in a position to have 10-12 girls on the varsity roster which I think is ideal on a first year team.”
Even with these new additions, Coach Spinner isn’t done yet. In two weeks he heads to the Indiana State High School Girls Tournament. “Indiana, unlike Missouri and Illinois, has girls high school tennis in the spring. This will offer us a great opportunity to reel in a few more quality players,” said Spinner.
