On Wednesday evening amidst Lindenwood University – Belleville’s Anniversary Celebration signifying their 6th year in Belleville, there was yet another milestone taking place. At 6 p.m. Christopher Hursey signed with Lindenwood – Belleville making him the first men’s basketball player in school history.
Hursey is a business major from O’Fallon, IL. In 2007, he helped lead O’Fallon Township High School to a 2nd place finish in the Illinois high school state championship tournament. After a solid high school career, he played one year at McKendree University before suffering a near career ending knee injury. He has spent the last year rehabbing and taking classes at Southwestern Illinois College and will enter Lindenwood University – Belleville in January 2010.
Head Men’s Basketball Coach Scott Spinner said, “We are delighted to have Chris on our team. He is a natural leader and will be a great asset to the program. He is the kind of quality person I want representing our team and our university.” Coach Spinner noted that Chris has been involved in his church youth group, Special Olympics, Relay for Life, and other various service organizations.
Spinner, Hursey and the men’s basketball team will begin play in the fall semester of 2010.
